About Me

My photo
I am a special educator who has recently relocated to Manila. One of my goals for this year is learn more about early childhood education and special education in the Philippines. I have been visiting schools and therapy centers (among others) and providing info here about them. I do not aim to endorse these different centers/schools, but my intention is to provide information in case some people are interested in learning more about them.

Quality Life Discoveries

As part of the Autism Consciousness Week activities, there was a seminar yesterday at Quality Life Discoveries.  It is a beautiful building with state of the art facilities for different kinds of therapy and I was very excited to be able to visit and take pictures.  Imagine my disappointment when I realized that I had left my camera at home! Ahhh...I did talk to Teacher Archie David and he said I could come and visit again.

Here is the website so you can take a look at what they offer:

And here are pictures copied from their website...

Multi-sensory environment (MSE)

I can't recall what this is called (a "bubble something") but it's part of the MSE.

Aquatherapy

One rather interesting therapy used is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy...

If I understand it right, a lot of problems ( with kids with special needs and people with traumatic brain injury, etc.) are caused by not getting enough oxygen in the brain.  This therapy provides 100 % oxygen over a number of sessions to help the brain recover, resulting in recovery being faster.

  3. The doctor actually said the kids are fine because they seem to feel safe in there. It's the parents (who go inside with them) who get a little claustrophobic :).

  4. I forgot to add - they showed a video which had another version of the chamber. Transparent yung walls so you can see outside - I think that would be easier to handle.
