About Me

My photo
I am a special educator who has recently relocated to Manila. One of my goals for this year is learn more about early childhood education and special education in the Philippines. I have been visiting schools and therapy centers (among others) and providing info here about them. I do not aim to endorse these different centers/schools, but my intention is to provide information in case some people are interested in learning more about them.

Autism Society Philippines' Angels walk for Autism

After stopping to ask a couple of times, got to the Music Hall at the Mall of Asia on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 6:00 am (more or less).  After some warm up numbers and a number of opening remarks, we got to do a short walk around the mall.  I was amazed at the number of organizations, schools and families that participated (even though I knew that a lot are still unaccounted for).  I was also amazed by the program that SM had to orient their employees on how to deal sensitively and appropriately with people with disabilities (or PWDs).  Granted, it was in response to an unfortunate incident (http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/212905/the-autism-story)  in one of their malls, but the action taken was very timely and appropriate. I was so touched by whole families showing up in support of their children or family member with autism - so brave and so proud :).
