About Me

My photo
I am a special educator who has recently relocated to Manila. One of my goals for this year is learn more about early childhood education and special education in the Philippines. I have been visiting schools and therapy centers (among others) and providing info here about them. I do not aim to endorse these different centers/schools, but my intention is to provide information in case some people are interested in learning more about them.

Sisters of Mary Immaculate Learning Center - Davao

Just realizing this visit was made a month ago, so I really apologize.  Life kind of just got in the way :).

Anyway, I went to Davao with a couple of friends (Thanks Mobsy Carino and Anna Bautista) a month ago, because Mobsy was going to do a teacher's workshop there.  We ended up tagging along with her to see what was going on.

This is the sign outside the school

Slow down sign.  A little behind that are some of the students from the school.

"To love is to educate." I like that.

This is actually the flowchart / organizational framework/ vision and mission of a different entity that shares the same offices with the school.  Playnet is a community based preschool / early childhood center - they have itinerant teachers who travel to the different communities to teach young children.  Sometimes they have classrooms, oftentimes they make do with what they have there.

Below are some of the classrooms at the Sisters Mary Immaculate Learning Center.

Oops, got a pic of someone walking by with a soda in a plastic bag with a straw (totally different story, that one).

Shapes and numbers on the wall.

I thought these looked cute :).

Mobsy and Sister Terry Danlag.

Blackboard/chalkboard with more letters and numbers.

Days of the week in English and Tagalog/Filipino.

A little play area.

Wall posters on rules, date, weather and helpers.

More posters.

Materials on the shelves.

One of the classrooms. Bright, inviting tables and wall color.

My Melody right there on the door.

Mobsy in action.

Some of the teachers /aides, had their children with them that day.

Had a great time and proud of how schools and teachers manage even when they don't have much.  Felt very welcome and accepted by the people there.  Everyone was so nice and friendly :).

Thanks for taking us with you Teacher Mobsy!
Thank you also Sister Terry for taking us around and feeding us merienda and lunch :).
Until next time!

  1. Hi Bambi, we are all thankful and happy to have you with us. That was a great one for Playnet and for all of us. I hope we can arrange another workshop on early childhood education some other time.
